Ingredients

  • 115g (½ cup) unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 100g (½ cup) brown sugar, packed
  • 50g (¼ cup) granulated white sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 150g (1¼ cups) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 150g (about 1 cup) chocolate chips or chunks, plus extra to press on top

Method

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 175°C and line a baking tray with baking paper.

  2. 2

Mix the melted butter and both sugars in a bowl until smooth.

  3. 3

Add the egg and vanilla and whisk until the mixture looks creamy.

  4. 4

Add the flour, baking soda and salt and fold gently until just combined.

  5. 5

Add the chocolate chips and mix lightly.

  6. 6

Scoop the dough into 8–10 balls, place on the tray and press extra chips on top.

  7. 7

Bake for 9–11 minutes, until the edges are golden but the centre still looks soft.

  8. 8

Cool on the tray for 5–10 minutes, then move to a rack — or eat warm.
